Buying good coffee in South Africa

There are now over 300 roasters in South Africa. By purchasing from them, you will not only be supporting local business, you will also be ensuring that your coffee is freshly roasted and hasn’t been sitting in a container as it travels around the world.

It is quite possible that you will pay a little more but (I) you will probably be getting superior quality beans (ii) the product will be hand-roasted under the eyes of an artisan roaster (Iii) it will be delivered at it’s freshest (iv) you will be able to experiment with single origin coffees and an extended range.

Coffee pricing

If you break this down by cup, let’s say you buy 1 kg of specialist coffee for R 250, therefore at R R0.25c per gram. You use say 10 g in a single coffee and the cost is R2.50 per cup plus a little for milk or sugar. How much will you really save if you go for a cheap blend on a special at your local hardware store? Our advice to you is that the savings on cheap coffee versus good coffee are nominal - life is too short to compromise and you deserve the best.

Buy coffee at wholesale prices

Most roasteries will offer a bulk-buy discount for the ongoing supply of coffee to coffee shops, restaurants, bed and breakfasts, hotels and even offices. We recommend that you contact one of our advertisers and, after discussion about your volumes and requirements, they are sure to put a deal together for you.
